HC Deb 12 February 1959 vol 599 cc1340-1
42. Mr. Malcolm MacPherson

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has considered the Report of the Committee on African Adult Education in Nyasaland, 1958; to what extent the carrying out of its recommendations is a matter for the territorial government; and what decisions have been reached by the territorial government.

Mr. J. Amery

A copy of the Report has been obtained and is now being studied. I have not yet received the Governor's comments, in which I will ask him to include the recommendations as to the extent to which it is proper and necessary for the Government to cooperate in implementing the recommendations of the Report.

Mr. MacPherson

Does this not show unwarranted delay? Is the hon. Gentleman aware that the Report has been available in this country for some considerable time? We ought to have been given a better Answer than that.

Mr. Amery

As the matter is an important one, I should not like to express a view until it has been fully considered.
