HC Deb 10 February 1959 vol 599 cc979-80
12. Sir D. Robertson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware of the shortage of hospital accommodation in Thurso, following the doubling of the town's population in the last three years; and whether he intends to expand Dunbar Hospital on its present site or to build another hospital elsewhere.

Mr. J. N. Browne

The Northern Regional Hospital Board, which is, of course, primarily concerned, has this matter under review. My right hon. Friend cannot at this stage say what decision the Board may come to.

Sir D. Robertson

Is it not the case that the Caithness Hospital Board and Caithness medical men have been pressing for a considerable time for an extension of this hospital and particularly for a maternity wing? Will the hon. Gentleman say that delay is not being used as an instrument of policy?

Mr. Browne

Yes, Sir.
