HC Deb 03 February 1959 vol 599 c192
27. Sir W. Anstruther-Gray

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has considered a letter from the Eye-mouth Harbour Trustees recommending a scheme for a new harbour entrance which would allow fishing boats to enter and leave the harbour at all times and tides; and whether he has yet replied to this letter.

Mr. Maclay

The trustees wrote to me on 21st January proposing a scheme which they estimated would cost £376,000. I am considering their proposals and have not yet replied to their letter.

Sir W. Anstruther-Gray

In considering this matter, will my right hon. Friend bear in mind that improvement of the entrance to the harbour at Eyemouth would be a benefit that would be felt not only in Eyemouth but all the way up and down the coast?

Mr. Maclay

I am very conscious of the importance of that harbour.
