HC Deb 10 December 1959 vol 615 cc731-2
27. Mr. Jay

asked the President of the Board of Trade in what parts of Development Areas the Government are now willing to build Government-financed factories; and what proportion of the population of Great Britain lives in these areas.

Mr. Erroll

We are willing to consider applications for new factory building in those parts of the Development Areas where there is high and persistent unemployment, and where D.A.T.A.C. facilities are available. These include about 7 per cent. of the insured population of Great Britain.

Mr. Jay

Will the Minister do what his right hon. Friend has already done several times this year in answer to Questions, namely, tell us those parts of the Development Areas, individually, in respect of which he is prepared to meet these applications?

Mr. Erroll

Previous Answers have already listed a number of places, and I do not want to weary the House by repeating them.
