§ 21. Mr. W. Hamiltonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware of the increasing need for further social amenities in Glenrothes; and, in view of the anticipated acceleration in the population increase, if he will take urgent steps to facilitate the provision of such amenities.
§ Mr. MaclayI agree that the provision of social facilities in the new towns must keep pace with the growth of population and I have suggested to the development corporation a basis of cooperation between them, the responsible local authorities and the voluntary bodies concerned, which I hope will help towards the submission of agreed proposals.
§ Mr. HamiltonCan the right hon. Gentleman be a little more specific, especially on the provision of a cinema? Can he indicate whether he will approve of the development corporation going forward itself with the provision of this amenity?
§ Mr. MaclayI am at present considering a proposal by the development corporation that it should be authorised to build and run a cinema. I will let the hon. Member know as soon as I can how that matter stands.
