HC Deb 08 December 1959 vol 615 cc201-2
9. Mr. Dempsey

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if in view of the need to reduce the risk of accidents, he will draw the attention of the education authority, during its consideration of the need to build a Protestant primary school at Shawhead, to the fact that at present approximately 270 pupils have to cross one of the busiest roads in Lanarkshire to reach the Whifflet primary school.

Mr. Maclay

I am assured by the Education Authority that this is one of the facts that will be taken into account.

Mr. Dempsey

Will the Secretary of State use his influence in this direction, because it is a very large number of children to be crossing such a very dangerous road, and I should like to think that they are entitled to a school of their own and should have it to avoid any possible accident?

Mr. Maclay

As I said, I am certain that the education authority has this in mind.
