HC Deb 08 December 1959 vol 615 cc217-8
31. Mr. Hannan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what progress has been made by the hospital authorities in giving effect to the recommendations of the Montgomery Report.

Mr. Maclay

The Western Regional Hospital Board has a series of building projects in hand, at various stages of progress, which will remedy the shortage of beds in its area. The maternity provision in other regions is already substantially up to the recommended level. All the regional boards are now reporting to me on the arrangements in their areas for the co-ordination of maternity services.

Mr. Hannan

Can the Secretary of State indicate whether the site has now been cleared for the new hospital in the City of Glasgow which he promised in the debate on the Estimates, and can he tell us what progress is being made with regard to the new maternity hospital in Glasgow?

Mr. Maclay

Perhaps if the hon. Member will put down a specific question about that, as it does not arise directly out of the Question which he asked.
