HC Deb 30 April 1959 vol 604 cc1446-7
16. Mr. Hayman

asked the Minister of Education the prospects of increasing the quota of teachers for Cornwall, in view of the unsatisfactory way it is working there so far as some primary schools are concerned.

Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd

None at present. I do not consider that the distribution scheme is bearing unduly hard on this authority.

Mr. Hayman

Will the Minister take into account the Halwin school in my constituency, which is an all-age school with 170 children and only five teachers, including the headmaster, and will he bear in mind that there are eight similar schools in the county? Will he also bear in mind the wide age range in country schools which have pupils of both sexes and will he see whether he can do something better for the county?

Mr. Lloyd

I appreciate the problem. We are making progress in this matter. I appreciate very much what the authority is doing.
