HC Deb 30 April 1959 vol 604 c1444
11. Mr. Bonham Carter

asked the Minister of Education what reply he has sent to the resolution signed by sixty-three parents and members of the community at Whiddon Down objecting to the proposal of the Devon County Council to close Whiddon Down school.

Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd

I have acknowledged this objection to the education authority's proposal, and as soon as I have considered the arguments on both sides and reached a decision, I will inform the objectors and the authority.

Mr. Bonham Carter

Will the Minister bear in mind that a considerable sum of money has been spent on the school recently in re-equipping it, that in view of this it would seem a pity to close it down, and that it is a two-teacher school with thirty-five pupils and, therefore, there is much to be said for keeping it open?

Mr. Lloyd

I will bear that in mind.
