HC Deb 20 April 1959 vol 604 cc32-3
51. Mr. J. Lindsay

asked the Minister of Health whether he has yet received the Report of the Committee on the Cost of Prescribing; and what action he is proposing to take upon it.

Mr. Walker-Smith

Yes, Sir. I am considering the recommendations in the Report, which will be published on or about 12th May.

Mr. Lindsay

When will my right hon. and learned Friend be consulting with the British Medical Association and other bodies interested in the Report and when are conclusions likely to be reached on the recommendations made in the Report? Furthermore, how far have the recommendations of the Committee's interim report been implemented?

Mr. Walker-Smith

In regard to the last part of my hon. Friend's supplementary Question, the recommendations made in the interim report either have been implemented or are in process of being implemented.

In regard to the timing of action on the final Report, I am proposing to consult the British Medical Association and other interested organisations as soon as the Report has been published, and action will be taken on the recommendations as soon as possible in the light of those consultations.
