HC Deb 15 April 1959 vol 603 cc1015-6
29. Mr. Zilliacus

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will, at his talks with the French Prime and Foreign Ministers, propose a joint endorsement by the two Governments of President de Gaulle's recent declaration that the unification of Germany must be accompanied by that country's acceptance and international recognition of its existing frontiers.

Mr. Selwyn Lloyd

These talks are now concluded.

Mr. Zilliacus

Would not the right hon. and learned Gentleman state now that, in view of the length of time that has passed, it is too late to reopen the question of the German eastern frontier and that the present frontier is the only basis on which there can be unification of Germany by agreement?

Mr. Lloyd

That supplementary question and others like it were dealt with in my reply to Question No. 8.
