Mr. Philips Priceasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in view of the importance of the co-operation of Ethiopia in the solution of the problem of sharing surplus Nile waters, he will approach the Government of that country with a view to securing its cooperation in summoning a conference of all States directly interested in Nile waters to consider this problem.
§ Mr. Selwyn LloydHer Majesty's Government are fully aware of the importance of an equitable settlement of the problem of the Nile waters which safeguards the interests of all users. The House may be aware that there have recently been some preliminary contacts 1006 betweeen the two major users. I will naturally consider in what ways Her Majesty's Government might help at the appropriate time.
