HC Deb 09 April 1959 vol 603 cc359-60
5. Mr. Awbery

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many sites in Malta have been offered to industrial concerns for the purpose of establishing factories; what inducement has been offered them for this purpose; with what result; and what progress has been made by the Government Tourist Board in establishing a tourist industry on the island.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The Malta Government have nearly completed an industrial estate providing serviced sites and factories for offer to industrialists on attractive terms, which will shortly be published. Two pilot factories will be ready for occupation later in the year. Inducements in the form of tax holidays and customs concessions are incorporated in the Aids to Industries Legislation shortly to be enacted by the Governor.

Malta's attractions for tourists are being intensively advertised with tourist agents in Europe and North America. Results are already apparent in plans for inclusive tours to Malta this summer from various European countries.
