§ Mrs. CastleIs the Colonial Secretary aware that Dr. Banda's friends in London are very worried because, contrary to the promise which the right hon. Gentleman gave in the House that Dr. Banda could receive and dispatch at least one letter a week, they have had no letter at all from him? Is the right hon. Gentleman also aware that Dr. Banda's solicitor in London sent him an air mail letter on 24th March asking whether he needed any legal advice and whether there was anything that he required to be sent to him and what were the conditions in which he was being detained? Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the solicitor has received no reply, although he enclosed a prepaid air mail envelope, and that there is some alarm that there has been no correspondence at all from Dr. Banda?
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydIt is not for me to say why Dr. Banda does not write to certain people. He has his rights and all of them have been granted. I have said that Dr. Banda said he was well. He also said that he had no complaints, and I gather that he is fitter than when he was first detained.
