HC Deb 08 April 1959 vol 603 c176
18. Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what reports he has received from the Truce Supervision Authorities or other sources, and what consultations he has held with friendly Powers, about the presence at Gaza of a so-called Palestinian Army, trained in sabotage, and equipped with modern weapons, including tanks and heavy artillery; and whether he will will make a statement.

Mr. Selwyn Lloyd

The answer to the first two parts of the Question is "None, Sir ". It follows that the answer to the third part is also "No, Sir ".

Mr. Biggs-Davison

But is my right hon. and learned Friend aware that Cairo Radio has boasted of the existence of this so-called Palestinian Army? Is this just another lie from that tainted and disreputable source, or, if there is any truth in this, will my right hon. and learned Friend see that the necessary precautions are taken in good time?

Mr. Lloyd

I have no information to lead me to believe that what my hon. Friend suggests in his Question is true.
