HC Deb 08 April 1959 vol 603 cc198-9
56. Mr. Philips Price

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether he will now consider amending the regulations so as to enable a farmer to take an agricultural tractor, licensed at a £2 rate of duty, on to the public highway, fitted with a transport box on the linkage system, thereby enabling him to carry such articles as feeding stuffs, small tools and utensils to parts of the farm separated from the rest by a road.

Mr. Nugent

Yes, Sir. We propose to amend the Regulations to permit agricultural tractors to be used on roads while fitted with loaded transport boxes. This use will be subject to certain restrictions on the size of the container and the distance of travel.

Mr. Philips Price

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that his Answer will give great satisfaction to many farmers?
