HC Deb 07 April 1959 vol 603 cc36-7

I come now to the Exchequer prospects for the year ahead. On the basis of existing taxation, Inland Revenue duties are expected to yield £3,050 million in the coming year, £34 million more than the actual receipts last year. The revenue from Customs and Excise duties is estimated at £2,245 million, an increase of £54 million over last year's receipts. I expect £110 million from the motor vehicles duties, £3 million more than last year. The estimate for other revenue is £215 million, £49 million more than last year, but this increase includes a special receipt of £22 million from an advance repayment of debt by Germany. Total revenue above the line is, therefore, estimated at £5,620 million, or £140 million more than last year.
