§ Mr. G. Jegerasked the President of the Board of Trade what action he proposes to take, following the Parliamentary Secretary's visit to the Humber, to alleviate the unemployment situation in Hull and Goole.
§ Mr. J. RodgersSince my visit to Hull in February, the Treasury has received five firm and eligible applications for financial assistance for developments in that area; all of these are under consideration by the Development Areas Advisory Committee. I am glad to say 13 that the level of unemployment at Goole has not been such as to warrant its inclusion among the places for which this assistance is available. Industrial development certificates will be freely granted for suitable projects in both Hull and Goole; four certificates covering 173,000 sq. ft. have been granted for Hull since my visit.
§ Mr. JegerCan the Parliamentary Secretary say why he did not include Goole in his visit to the Humber ports? Is he not aware that the unemployment situation in Goole is causing a great deal of anxiety to the people of that town?
§ Mr. RodgersMy only reason for not including the hon. Gentleman's constituency was that the specific reason for my visit was to go to D.A.T.A.C. areas and Goole is not a D.A.T.A.C. area.
