HC Deb 07 April 1959 vol 603 c9
13. Miss Burton

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is in a position to make a statement on the progress made during the discussions which have been taking place on standards for certain components for children's shoes between the British Standards Institution and footwear manufacturers.

Mr. J. Rodgers

I understand that the discussions are still proceeding and that no conclusions have yet been reached.

Miss Burton

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that we have reached this stage after five years? Does he know if we are likely to wait another five years before he is able to make a statement?

Mr. Rodgers

I am glad to have the hon. Lady's forecast of the time that we have to wait. As she knows, the discussions are continuing, and we very much hope that an agreed standard for the components of children's shoes will be arrived at.
