HC Deb 25 November 1958 vol 596 c198
13. Mr. Willis

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many public projects additional to those in the normal programmes have been commenced specifically to relieve unemployment in Scotland; and what is the total amount of expenditure involved.

Mr. Maclay

In pursuance of the statement by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer on 3rd November, I have been considering, in consultation with local authorities and other public bodies in Scotland, arrangements under which capital projects which might otherwise have to be put in hand later might be brought forward into the next twelve months. Under these arrangements I have so far authorised projects estimated to cost about £2 million, of which at least eight, with an estimated cost of £187,000, are known to have been started. I hope very soon to authorise further projects, bringing the total estimated expenditure up to nearly £4.5 million.
