§ 36. Mr. Sparksasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, in view of the reduction by 12 per cent. in import prices compared with 1951, whether he will introduce price control legislation in order to ensure that this reduction is passed on to the consumer.
§ Mr. ErrollNo, Sir.
§ Mr. SparksIs the hon. Gentleman aware that the cost of living is now 33 per cent. above what it was in 1951, and in view of the fall of 12 per cent. in 1320 import prices, will he explain why the consumer is not reaping the advantage of this reduction?
§ Mr. ErrollThere have been some significant reductions in retail prices in the last few months, but the hon. Member should remember that home costs are four or five times as important as import costs.
