HC Deb 20 November 1958 vol 595 cc1299-300
11. Mr. H. Hynd

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what help he has been able to provide for industry in Lancashire as a result of the Distribution of Industry (Industrial Finance) Act.

Mr. Erroll

Up to 18th November, eight preliminary inquiries about assistance under this Act had been received from undertakings in Lancashire. None of these has yet resulted in a firm and eligible application.

Mr. Hynd

Is that all that has happened in these months since the Act was passed? Has not the Minister anything more definite to tell us?

Mr. Erroll

I was asked about what help had been provided. I have given the position as it is at present.

Mr. Hynd

The answer is "None."

Mr. Jay

Can the Economic Secretary assure us that, if there is any danger of D.A.T.A.C. becoming a bottleneck in this, he will take steps to enlarge the staff?

Mr. Erroll

I can assure the right hon. Gentleman that there is no danger of that happening. I have taken a very close personal interest in its activities since I was transferred to the Treasury.
