HC Deb 17 November 1958 vol 595 c830
41. Mr. Mason

asked the Minister of Supply whether a decision has now been reached on the future of the Bristol Bloodhound and the English Electric Thunderbird guided missiles; to what extent they are to play a role within the Royal Air Force and the Army; and what orders have been placed by these two Services to date.

Mr. Aubrey Jones

Bloodhound and Thunderbird are surface-to-air guided weapons in production for the R.A.F. and the Army, respectively. I cannot give the size of the orders.

Mr. Mason

Can the Minister do something to allay concern about the future of the English Electric Thunderbird and say whether it has any future within the Army?

Mr. Jones

I can only repeat the Answer which I have just given, that the Thunderbird is now in production for the Army. To my knowledge, there is no contemplated change in that position.
