35. Mr. Palmer

asked the Paymaster-General if he will state the total saving in coal consumed and in money terms brought about by improved thermal efficiency in British power stations between 1947–48 and 1957–58, also the increase in the average price received for electricity sold between 1947–48 and 1957–58 compared with the increase in the general level of prices over the same period, and the percentage fall in the number of employees per standard unit of output capacity in the electricity supply industry between the first year of nationalisation and 31st March, 1958.
