HC Deb 12 November 1958 vol 595 cc361-2
9. Mr. Page

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether he will publish a list of areas in which the Standing Vehicles (Exemption) Regulations, 1956, providing for the parking of vehicles, in certain circumstances, without lights, has been adopted.

Mr. Nugent

Outside the Metropolitan Police District and the City of London the parking of vehicles on streets unlit is subject to the consent of the Chief Officer of Police. I have no information about the number of streets in respect of which such consent has been given.

Mr. Page

Would not it be a help to the public to know whereabouts in the country vehicles could be parked without lights? If there is not a record of these, how is anyone to know where the Regulations apply?

Mr. Nugent

Wherever such a permission has been given—and it is given subject to the approval of the Chief Inspector of Police—there is always a special traffic sign indicating that the Regulations apply there.
