HC Deb 10 November 1958 vol 595 cc10-1
14. Mr. Donnelly

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will make a further statement regarding coracle fishing in the River Teify.

Mr. Godber

Coracle netting on the River Teify between Llechryd Bridge and Cenarth continues to be prohibited except for persons who held licences to fish in both 1931 and 1932. There is no prohibition on coracle netting in the tidal waters of the river between Llechryd Bridge and Cardigan Bridge.

Mr. Donnelly

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that the operative part is that between Llechryd Bridge and Cenarth Falls? Is there not a committee of his Ministry sitting at the moment, and is this subject not relevant to it; and is it possible for the subject to be put specifically on its agenda at the request of the Minister?

Mr. Godber

There is the Bathurst Committee sitting at the present time, and the subject would certainly come within its terms of reference. I suggest that those concerned might care to give written evidence to the Committee, for I am sure that the Committee would welcome it.
