HC Deb 05 November 1958 vol 594 cc931-2
43. Captain Pilkington

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation how many signs indicating the mileage between Liverpool and Manchester there are at present on the East Lancashire road.

Mr. Nugent

I am informed that there are none.

Captain Pilkington

Does my hon. Friend acquiesce in this? Surely it is very bad not to have mileages shown on a long road such as this. Is he doing anything to encourage mileage marks to be put on roads in other parts of the country?

Mr. Nugent

We have already sent out a direction giving advice on this matter of placing mileage signs on roads. We have had some further discussion on the matter among our divisional road engineers, and we should certainly wish to encourage this marking.
