asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what progress has been made in introducing legislation in Hong Kong for the limitation of working hours in factories.

Conditions of industrial employment have been carefully reviewed by the Hong Kong Government during the past six months. As a first step in the Government's aim to raise minimum standards, the Commissioner of Labour is making new regulations to restrict the hours of work of women and young persons in industry The regulations will be laid before the Legislative Council tomorrow and, if approved, will come into force on 1st January, 1959
