HC Deb 04 November 1958 vol 594 c740
2. Mr. John Hall

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what requests for financial assistance have been received from the Government of Sierra Leone in recent months; and to what extent it has been possible to meet them.

The Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies (Mr. John Profumo)

A Sierra Leone delegation visited the United Kingdom in August to discuss immediate and longer term finance for development and a settlement on military expenditure. On the second part of the Question, I would refer my hon. Friend to the Written Answer my right hon. Friend gave to the hon. Member for Eton and Slough (Mr. Brockway) on 23rd October.

Mr. Hall

Can my hon. Friend say whether the Sierra Leone Government are satisfied with the financial aid which has been promised. or do they feel that perhaps some of the more troublesome and vocal territories, such as British Guiana, for instance, have had more generous assistance?

Mr. Profumo

I understand that in all the circumstances the Sierra Leone Government are satisfied, particularly with the fact that discussions are to be continued early next year.
