HC Deb 04 November 1958 vol 594 cc753-4
13. Mr. Rankin

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will make a statement on the result of his discussions with the Governor on the constitutional future of the British Somaliland Protectorate.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

My discussions with the Governor are not complete, and I cannot therefore make a statement yet.

Mr. Rankin

Will the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind the urgency of coming to a conclusion quickly and putting the proposals into operation as soon as he can? Can he now say whether it is intended to have Somalis on the Executive Council?

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

Even in small ways —as the hon. Gentleman ingeniously tries to make me do—I cannot anticipate my discussions with the Governor, who does not arrive in London until tomorrow morning.
