HC Deb 21 May 1958 vol 588 c1289
30. Mr. Brockway

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation if he will now report the conclusions of the transport consultative committees on the use of privileged station ranks by licensed taxi-drivers.

Mr. Watkinson

I understand that the committees have almost completed their extensive inquiries into this system and hope to be able to present their reports some time in July.

Mr. Brockway

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman to make sure, if he can, that the result of the inquiry is then made known, because this matter has now been discussed for seven years? What is the reason why a simple proposal that station cab ranks should be served by rota from nearby public ranks cannot be put into practice without this long delay?

Mr. Watkinson

The committees have not been discussing it for seven years, but as soon as I get their reports I shall certainly make them known.
