HC Deb 14 May 1958 vol 588 cc409-10
41. Mr. A. Roberts

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation if he will give the House a more precise date when the direct air service from the United Kingdom to South America is now expected to commence.

Mr. Watkinson

It is B.O.A.C.'s intention, subject to a satisfactory financial assessment of the route at the time, to re-open a direct service to South America in the spring of 1960, which is the earliest time when Comet IV aircraft will be available for the route.

Mr. Beswick

Can the Minister confirm that the service is to be operated throughout by B.O.A.C., and not in conjunction with a subsidiary from the Caribbean?

Mr. Watkinson

I understand that it is a full B.O.A.C. service, but if the hon. Member will put down a Question upon the matter I shall be glad to look into it.
