HC Deb 12 May 1958 vol 588 cc5-6
19. Mr. Lipton

asked the Minister of Health what plans he is now considering to reduce or change the number of London teaching hospitals.

Mr. Walker-Smith

None, Sir.

Mr. Lipton

Has the right hon. and learned Gentleman seen the reports stating that he is considering closing three London hospitals—Charing Cross, St. George's and Westminster? Is there any truth at all in those reports?

Mr. Walker-Smith

I did see a report in a usually well-informed newspaper, but, in fact, I am not considering that course. There are certain proposals in mind with reference to Charing Cross and the Royal Free Hospital with which the hon. Gentleman is no doubt familiar, but there is no question of amalgamation.
