HC Deb 12 May 1958 vol 588 cc20-1
44. Mr. Zilliacus

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will call the attention of the Security Council to the fact that United States arms and aeroplanes are reaching the Indonesian rebels from the Philippines and Siam, and that this constitutes a situation which may cause international friction.

Mr. Selwyn Lloyd

No, Sir. I have no evidence that United States arms and aeroplanes are reaching dissident forces in Indonesia.

Mr. Zilliacus

In view of the disquiet displayed by various countries in the Far East, would not the Foreign Secretary inquire into this matter, because there is considerable evidence that such is taking place?

Mr. Lloyd

The President and the Secretary of State of the United States have categorically stated that United States policy is one of careful neutrality.
