HC Deb 12 May 1958 vol 588 c30
60. Mr. de Freitas

asked the Minister of Supply what are his plans for ensuring the progress of research and development into military aviation now that it has become so much more profitable for private firms to concentrate on civil aviation.

Mr. Aubrey Jones

I must ask the hon. Gentleman to await the statement on the Government's policy on aeronautical research and development which I shall be making very shortly. I can, however, assure him that there will be no neglect of the research and development work necessary to meet military requirements.

Mr. Beswick

Can the Minister say what he means by "very shortly"? We are told from week to week that a statement is coming; may we have more details about when it is likely to be made?

Mr. Jones

I believe that there is a Question on the Order Paper for tomorrow.
