HC Deb 07 May 1958 vol 587 cc1206-7
28. Mr. Ridsdale

asked the Postmaster-General whether he will reconsider his decision to charge a 6d. search fee when the public collect their letters on Saturday afternoons.

Mr. K. Thompson

No, Sir.

Mr. Ridsdale

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that this follows the taking away of the second delivery on Saturdays, which already must have meant a substantial economy? How much longer have the public to put up with increased charges and less efficient service?

Mr. Thompson

These charges were announced by my right hon. Friend in the House last year, and so far as we can judge they seem to be working with reasonable smoothness and satisfaction.
