asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the revenue received during the year 1957–58 on musical instruments, the estimated revenue during the year 1958–59, and the estimated revenue in a full year.

Receipts of Purchase Tax on musical instruments, excluding gramophones, radio-gramophones, record players and records, were about £750,000 in 1957–58; and the estimated receipts for 1958–59 and for a full year at current rates of tax are £500,000 and £400,000, respectively.
