§ 2. Mr. Hector Hughesasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will state the results to Scottish trade of participation of Scottish firms and industries in the International Fisheries Trade Fair in Copenhagen in September, 1957; and whether it is his policy to promote a similar international fisheries trade fair in Scotland in 1958.
§ The Joint Under-Secretary of State for Scotland (Lord John Hope)My right hon. Friend has no doubt that the display of products sponsored by the Aberdeen Fishing Vessel Owners' Association at last year's Trade Fair in Copenhagen has served to draw attention abroad to the high quality of Aberdeen fish, but he cannot say whether there has been any expansion in trade as a result. My right hon. Friend has passed on to the Scottish Council (Development & Industry) the suggestion that a similar Fair might be promoted in Scotland.
§ Mr. HughesWhile thanking the Minister for that Answer, may I ask if he realises that Scottish fish, particularly Aberdeen fish, is sold in Africa, Canada, the United States and even in mid-European countries, and an international fair such as I suggest would do much to enlarge the trade, which at present is not as much as it might be?
§ Lord John HopeYes, I agree with the hon. and learned Member.
