Mr. Sorensenasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation to what extent owners of houses to be demolished in connection with the extension of Eastern Avenue through the borough of Leyton are to be compensated financially at different rates according to whether they are or are not in occupation when their property is acquired for the purpose of demolition.
§ Mr. WatkinsonCompensation is worked out on the same basis in both cases, but owners in occupation who have to vacate on account of the scheme will be entitled in addition to a sum for disturbance.
§ Mr. SorensenIs the Minister aware that a good deal of anxiety exists already among my constituents and others in like position, lest they have to leave their houses and do not get the compensation anticipated? Will he look into this matter to see that a proper and equitable standard of compensation is paid?
§ Mr. WatkinsonI have set out the general principle in my Answer, but I would say to the hon. Gentleman that I and my Ministry are most anxious that cases arising of dispossession or acquisition of land for road works should be fairly and equitably treated. If the hon. Gentleman can bring me any specific case or problem, I will certainly look into it.
