HC Deb 20 March 1958 vol 584 cc1399-400
2. Sir R. Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what has been the duration of the discussions between the University College of the West Indies and the Imperial College of Tropical Agriculture on the question of providing a first degree in agriculture in the Caribbean; and when it is hoped to conclude these discussions and announce a decision.

Mr. Profumo

I know my hon. Friend understands that discussion between these two institutions is not a matter that falls within my right hon. Friend's direct responsibility. I believe, however, that the discussions to which he refers started several years ago. On the second part of the Question, I have nothing to add to the reply which my right hon. Friend gave him on 13th February.

Sir R. Robinson

In view of the fact that these discussions have been going on for so long, will my hon. Friend use whatever influence he has in the matter in order to expedite the announcement of a decision?

Mr. Profumo

I do not think that it needs the use of my influence. I know that those concerned understand the position as clearly as the hon. Member does.
