§ 55. Miss Herbisonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many spastic children are receiving some form of education; and how many are receiving none.
§ Mr. MaclayOf an estimated total of about 1,000 spastic children, 450 attend special schools, some receive tuition in their own homes, and others less severely handicapped attend ordinary schools. I am obtaining from education authorities the numbers involved and shall write to the hon. Member.
§ Miss HerbisonThe Minister will be aware that because of the intense interest they take, many parents have, from the beginning, provided some form of education for their spastic children. Will the Minister take every step to ensure that in Scotland every spastic child who can benefit from education will receive it?
§ Mr. MaclayI am only too anxious to achieve that objective as soon as it is practicable.
