§ 34. Sir W. Anstruther-Grayasked the Secretary of State for Scotland the price and weight of Imbra and Juby rabbit traps as compared with the gin trap now in general use.
§ Mr. MaclayThe Imbra Mark I will cost 10s. 6d., so long as existing stocks last, and 15s. thereafter. The Imbra Mark II will cost 15s. and the Juby 19s. 6d. Gin traps range in price from 5s. 6d. to 9s. 6d. Approximate weights are as follows: Imbra Mark I and Mark II, 1 lb. 15 oz.; and Juby, 2 lb. 6 oz. The type of gin trap most commonly used for rabbit-trapping weighs about 1 lb. 8 oz.
§ Sir W. Anstruther-GrayWill my right hon. Friend bear in mind that unless these new traps are comparable in price and also in weight, they will not commend themselves to rabbit killers?
§ Mr. MaclayI am conscious of this problem, but my hon. Friend will realise that it is a difficult one. There is a genuine desire to get a humane type of trap into operation at a reasonable price.
§ Sir T. MooreIs not it likely that, as more of these humane traps will be used once the law prohibiting the others comes into effect, obviously the price will come down?
§ Mr. MaclayThat is a reasonable thing to expect.
