HC Deb 18 June 1958 vol 589 cc1098-9
31. Mr. Gresham Cooke

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation when the interim Report of the Anderson Committee on signs to be used in connection with motorways will be published; and whether he will ensure that the necessary steps are taken to secure the erection of the required signs in time for the opening of the Preston By-pass.

Mr. Nugent

I cannot at the moment give a definite answer to the first part of my hon. Friend's Question; the answer to the second part is, "Yes, Sir".

Mr. Gresham Cooke

While thanking my hon. Friend for the information relating to the by-pass, may I ask him whether the road users' organisation will have an opportunity of commenting on the new road signs before they are actually erected on the by-pass?

Mr. Nugent

I should rather doubt that. The Committee is making a most detailed examination of current practice in this matter, both on the Continent and at home. Our intention is to make these regulations for the Preston motorway, but if in the light of experience we find they can be improved, we shall benefit by the experience.
