HC Deb 17 June 1958 vol 589 c881
21. Mrs. Castle

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many medical staff are employed in the ante-natal clinics at the Tsan Yuk Hospital, Hong Kong; how many sessions are held per month; and what has been the average attendance per session in the past year.

Mr. Profumo

I have asked the Governor for the information and, when I have received it, will circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Mrs. Castle

While thanking the hon. Member for that reply, may I ask whether he is aware that I have received a copy of the Hong Kong Standard of 16th May which contains a photograph of the maternity hospital, with expectant mothers sleeping outside overnight because of the overcrowding of the ante-natal clinics and the necessity to queue for long hours? Would he look at this report, and, when he makes his statement, confirm or deny these facts?

Mr. Profumo

I think that it would perhaps be better if, instead of relying on that report. I awaited the Governor's full report, which no doubt will take that sort of thing into consideration.
