§ Mr. ProfumoIn 1951 there were 3,799 societies with 426,000 members. Their owned funds—paid up share capital and reserves—amounted to £2,682,000 or £6 5s. per member. In 1956 there were 7,844 societies with 1,022,000 members. Their owned funds amounted to £12,220,000 or £11 16s. per member.
