§ 16. Mr. J. Johnsonasked the Under-Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations when the last Imperial Education Conference was held; and whether he will give favourable consideration to the holding of a Commonwealth Education Conference.
Commander NobleThe last Imperial Education Conference was held in 1927. My noble Friend is always ready, in consultation with my right hon. Friend, the Minister of Education, to give favourable consideration to the holding of a Commonwealth Education Conference if other Commonwealth countries should desire one.
§ Mr. JohnsonDoes not the right hon. and gallant Gentleman think that thirty years is an awfully long time before the English-speaking nations in the Commonwealth get together? If the export of educational values is thought to be important, will he consult the Minister of Education and suggest that it is time we had another conference?
Commander NobleThere has been a continuous exchange of information between Commonwealth education experts. They meet each other frequently on occasions like the Commonwealth Universities Conference which will be held in Canada this summer. These talks have recently taken the place of the education conferences in the past.
