§ 46. Mr. Peytonasked the Prime Minister if, in order to keep the development of the Swallow project in this country, he will now review the decision of the Government to discontinue support for this project.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerI have been asked to reply.
I have nothing to add to what my right hon. Friend the Minister of Supply said on 22nd May during the debate on the aircraft industry.
§ Mr. PeytonMay I ask my right hon. Friend to give this matter his further consideration, as it is a quite unique project which may have untold influence on 32 the future of British aviation? Will he generally review the arrangement which now exists for bringing this kind of project to the notice both of the military and the civil users at a very early stage?
§ Mr. ButlerIt is quite clear from a study of the speech of my right hon. Friend the Minister of Supply on a previous occasion, and from Answers already given, that we are clearly aware of the importance of this invention. Naturally, I will reply to my hon. Friend by saying that it would be very wrong not to watch these future developments with every intention of making all the use we can of the advance of science.
§ Mr. BeswickDoes the Lord Privy Seal remember that in the debate to which he has referred the Minister said that he had asked the company concerned to submit further proposals? Have they done so and, if so, what consideration has been given to them?
§ Mr. ButlerI have nothing further to say on that point, although I remember it being said by the Minister.
