HC Deb 10 June 1958 vol 589 cc13-4
19. Mr. Wall

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will now make a statement about the future of Cyprus.

43. Mr. P. Williams

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will now make a statement on the future of the Colony of Cyprus.

The Secretary of State for the Colonies (Mr. Alan Lennox-Boyd)

I have nothing to add to my statement of 19th May.

Mr. Wall

Is my right hon. Friend aware that we are well prepared to wait another week or so for the solution to this problem? Is he also aware that when a solution is propounded to the House there is bound to be disagreement in some quarters? Will he, therefore, consider proposing a solution that can be enforced and pursued to a successful conclusion and so end the present uncertainty?

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

Yes, Sir.

Mr. Bevan

Do the assurances that we were given before the Easter Recess still stand and are we to have a statement next week?

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

Yes, Sir. I repeat what I said before, that the Government statement will be made in any case not later than next Tuesday.
