HC Deb 10 June 1958 vol 589 c24
30. Mr. Stonehouse

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what reply has been given to the recent demands made by the Buganda Lukiko with regard to constitutional changes in the Protectorate.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

No resolution of the Lukiko recommending any constitutional changes has been submitted recently to the Governor. I understand that certain constitutional matters were considered by the Lukiko on 15th May but that no conclusion was reached other than that legal advice should be sought.

Mr. Stonehouse

Can we ask the right hon. Gentleman to disregard the pressure now being brought on him by Mr. Sempa, the Minister of Health of Buganda, in view of the fact that he has not public support outside Buganda and that even in Buganda political parties are opposed to his suggestions?

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I think it would be unwise for me to comment on the hon. Gentleman's remarks.
