HC Deb 29 July 1958 vol 592 c1146
37. Mr. J. Johnson

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is aware of the constitutional proposals for the future of Uganda that have been submitted to the Governor by J. K. Babiiha, Member of the Legislative Council, on behalf of the Toro Kingdom; and what action he proposes to take thereon.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

These proposals have not been submitted to the Governor. I feel that no action is called for on my part, although these suggestions are an interesting stimulus to public discussion in Uganda.

Mr. Johnson

Bearing in mind the ignorance of the Minister about these proposals, will he confirm the fact that the smaller kingdoms of Uganda are distinctly apprehensive of Buganda, and the Buganda Government as a whole? Will he give the House an assurance that he will safeguard the interests of the smaller kingdoms, if and when any future constitution is being considered?

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

Most certainly, yes.
